How Killers Are Different [Today's News Poem, October 6, 2010]
It's
Because I care if they come back—
For
Parting's the first of many deaths,
And
Only reconciliation
Can
Absolve me my guilty instincts:
For
These reasons, I cannot murder.
"Bayquni had previously admitted to police investigators that he had killed a total of 14 street children since 1998. Some of the victims were reportedly sodomized after they were killed, including Bayquni’s last victim, Ardiansyah... Bayquni’s trial has focused renewed attention on the plight of thousands of street children in the capital and elsewhere across the country."

Scream Forever You Fuckers [Twitter Found Poem, May 29, 2010]

I Sometimes wish we were a communist country
so i could see somebody getting murdered out there....
dont play victim. you talked the stock market.
Now you Are getting murdered for
making a difference: fanny pacs with patriotic colors.
another crazy ass wanted to push
kids that keep running up and down the stairs
down the stairs to have them stop!
she wanted them to shut up and die,
so she could sleep in peace....lol.
oh my GOD I WISH THIS civilization WOULD MOVE.
im DRIVEN BY DISGUST N. RESENTMENT.
im Freaking out a lil.
Murder makes a difference!
execution makes a difference!
you talked the stock market?
push you down the stairs.
you wanted to sleep in peace?
sleep in peace forever.
you just ate a baby?
I screamed. you should scream forever.
dont play victim. im DRIVEN BY
DISGUST N. RESENTMENT for U.

Re: Wikileaks horror and my freaking out on Twitter right after viewing it

I've never seen a video that made me weep and scream at the same time. I could imagine war. It was not the footage of the killing that...
dumped adrenalin into my system (at 1am), but rather the video-game bloodlust, which I know all too well, by the soldiers. Don't you
EVER let some patriotic soldier-fuckface tell you s/he's just doing his/her duty. This is MADNESS!
This war will never end until we're all dead. I didn't fully accept it before, but now I understand that the fighting will never end.
People can understand greed and revenge. But the hypocrisy of 'heroic troops?' Madness. THIS is fire control? Badgering control until...
they've been given permission to fire? Talking over/ignoring the guy whose observations might have had them hold their fire? This is the
shit soldiers in Iraq expect us to suck their cocks for? Fuck them. A family member brought pictures of charred bodies to a Christmas.
event right after the war started and he was chuckling and showing the little kids who he killed. I thought that was fucked up, but
thought he was caught in a machine. No. This is war democracy in action. The telos is combined to kill _someone_. To see foes everywhere
We are all so dead. This madness has just escalated from Vietnam. I used to see 'nam as a separate issue. "The Vietnamese forgave us.
so will the Iraqis." There is no forgiveness here. This is unforgivable. _I_ am unforgivable. I knew it was bad, but I chose to believe
that our thugs had controls. There is no system that can survive willful attempts to game it. Whether it's the jury system or fire control.
I am too cowardly to sacrifice my life to fight this insanity. So when someone kills me later, I'll understand why. I deserve it. So do you.
I don't want to fight this shit. I just want to be left alone. But so do most people. And when we hide, evil grows. SHIT! And all I have are
my fucking poems? Poem vs Apache: "April is the cruelest month..." "Ratatatatatat"
And what the fuck are you people doing here, talking about long cat and spamming the shit out twitter? Goddamn!
Imagine if all that effort on meme generation/proliferation was spent on debunking the war. FUCK! We're so dead. There is no point doing
whatever it is that you're doing, because this shit will BOOMERANG on us and kill us. America has become too sick. No amount of poetry, no
amount of your fake-ass 'pity-me' sensitivity is going to save anything. Poets aren't the only ones to blame, really all artists who just
go along for the ride, trying to climb the social ladder--you know what to call it when Romans do it: Degenerate. When you do it though...
you're what? Fucking creative? NO! What the fuck have I been thinking? This MADNESS is the ONLY thing worth writing about.
Everything else just enables the madness. Ignoring madness makes it normative. OMG! And you fucking ninnies get mad at me when I'm being...
harsh? Look to the machine gun if you want harsh. Look to young maniacs who played wargames all their lives. Look to Twitter as you're shot
in the back by a chopper in the distance. There is no future for those who enable this horror. There is nothing for those who stay silent
and let hostile memes make people CRAZIER! WE are harsh with our narcissism. When this madness continues and people scream 'mememememe'
well, I can't help but look at it all and think we're all fucked. Every single last one of us. American and otherwise. Because you
non-Americans are too much like us. You live like us (if you're on twitter, yes, you live like us) with the same ergonomic environment.
You played wargames if you're male and you dismissed the boys' wargames as harmless if you're female. And with the computer and its fake
mediation of really everything, it takes the audio clip of mass murder to make me sick. I was not sickened by the shooting, though I should
have been, I was sickened by the way the decision to shoot was brought about and the PATHETIC justifications that I hope give those fucks
PTSD. I hope they don't kill themselves, if only to serve as zombies. Reminders of how horrible war is. I didn't believe the hippies
when I was growing up, because they were such hypocrites. So I thought war was like peace--just another natural human activity.
Now I understand that the war veteran is a signpost. A warning. Only now, one can see the war, not just its used-up ex-men/women.
I will fight against this, but I think it's too late. i thought my relative was an outlier. I didn't want to believe this was the norm.
And now that I know it's the norm, all my horrible suspicions about the world are confirmed. If anything, I was too soft. If there is a God
It's Manicheistic because the worst impulses in humanity have become the norm. Goodness is just an impulse. Evil is a propensity.

The Design and Bed of Our Penal Colony [Today's News Poem, April 4, 2010]
The Design and Bed of Our Penal Colony [Today's News Poem, April 4, 2010]
“There have been more than 3,000 murders of Afrikaner farmers in remote homesteads like this since the end of apartheid 16 years ago.”
--BBC, 18:58 GMT, Sunday, 4 April 2010 19:58 UK
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/africa/8602967.stm
“With an attitude of respect and concern for other beings, we can create an atmosphere of happiness, real harmony and real brotherhood.”
--The Dalai Lama, Twitter, about 12 hours ago via web as of 2:38pm PST
White power sleeps and never dies,
It simply make a compromise.
To pause the never-ending war.
The other races seek to score
In turn. The tribal instinct stays,
For human beings will never stray
Too far from those they think as kin.
The eye, it lies. They think the skin
Has deeper bonds than blood they share.
The science (if you must compare)
Confirms that which one ought expect
To hear from self when ones reflects
On totems; such as anger, rage.
Unless one seeks to self-engage
And not excuse the whim or gene
With reason—with our great machines—
Unless we make an atmosphere
Of harmony, we make the gears
Of something that will evermore
Both dig and fill the earth it scores.

A Game of Chess [Today's News Poem March 11, 2010]
A Game of Chess [Today's News Poem March 11, 2010]
“What was the spark that lit her interest in radical Islam? Born in Michigan, raised in Texas, living in Pennsylvania, LaRose may have had no contact with actual Muslims prior to professing a willingness to die for their cause in electronic messages.
In June 2008, LaRose posted a comment on YouTube saying she was “desperate to do something somehow to help” suffering Muslims. According to the timeline in the US indictment, it appears that only after that was she connected with a loose band of international extremists who suggested she help plot the murder of Swedish cartoonist Lars Vilks.”
--Peter Grier, Christian Science Monitor, March 11, 2010
http://www.csmonitor.com/USA/Justice/2010/0311/Three-crucial-questions-in-the-Jihad-Jane-case
The age of loyalty's not dead,
Not exorcised: the trait evolved.
We neither live behind, ahead,
Nor inbetween the times—we've solved
Some riddles; nothing war can't fix.
A bit of zero sum uplifts
The winner's soul. War's waged by cliques
And just because allegiance shifts
That doesn't mean that faith's gone dry.
A piety combined with rage
Explodes with zealotry. The spry
Will fight those others fear engage.
In conflict, righteousness is won.
The status quo must face or fail
The challenge it would rather shun.
But martyrs tip perception's scale
Until the entity of state,
Of church, or other cause is lost
For want of worship; sealing fate
As newer faiths take tithing's cost.
Salute a flag, or amity,
Or anime... astrology—
We serve to shape calamity
In service of idolatry.

If a Man Puts Out the Eye of an Equal, His Eye Shall Be Put Out [Feb 8, 2010 Today's News Poem]
If a Man Puts Out the Eye of an Equal, His Eye Shall Be Put Out [Feb 8, 2010 Today's News Poem]
“The "evil" killer of an East Palo Alto police officer showed no mercy or remorse as he stood over the fallen man and fired a final shot into his head, the officer's family said today in court before a judge sentenced the convicted murderer to death.”
--Henry K. Lee, San Francisco Chronicle, Feb 8, 2010
I knew a woman online
Who wanted to be a writer.
And because she seemed so blithe
To an activity I thought of as seppuku, as mortal combat—
An activity I value more than its practitioners—
I told her to quit.
I wanted to scare her from the page—
To chase her to the other paper—
The kind that most people love.
She died.
Age 33, so a year younger than me.
The life I tried to scare her from,
The one our thirties assures
Will wait for us with crochet needle,
And grandchild on lap
Didn't happen for her.
I have been mourning my whole life,
Which means the things that were
Matter more to me than the things that are
Or will be.
I didn't want her to be sad like me,
But I also didn't want her to be bitter like me.
I thought if she hated me, but lived well
And raised her son well,
It wouldn't matter what I said.
Everybody mourns something
And carries this sorrow like an infant—
Or more accurately, a tumor.
They say don't take it personally,
Don't take life personally,
You will go mad that way.
It's true. I'm there.
I've seen more ebbing than flowing in this life.
Change isn't an enemy, even if enemies are cast in that role.
Does my singleminded fury against the inhumanity of this world
Make me too inhuman to live in it?
I think I'm still human because I mourn,
But perhaps mourning isn't a noble emotion.
Maybe it's the justification
To see every cop as the one who did you or did someone you know—
Or someone who could have been you—wrong.
So that every cop becomes the cop
Someone should have shot.
So that every muse is a siren,
A devil, a prosecutor
Who should be ignored,
Lest death overtake one.
To see the affront to everything,
In everything.
And in mourning, becoming the affront,
Another thing that hates and should be hated
In a world we're insane to love.
In a world we have no right to mourn.
Whatever we were, we've killed it.
