Salmonella Swim Upstream To The First Watershed [Today's News Poem, August 20, 2010]

Salmonella Swim Upstream To The First Watershed [Today's News Poem, August 20, 2010]

Eden to edible; instinct extant.
Jungle to cages; conveyers to trucks...
Farms on the way to the stomach's delight.

Pathogens caught in the eggs of a hen,
Ride from a prison of gears to a bowl;
Coming to roost in an ancestral home.

“In a sign that the egg industry's woes are mounting, a second Iowa producer issued a recall of potentially millions of eggs that could be contaminated with salmonella. The eggs were packaged under at least three brands and had been shipped to 14 states, including California.”
