War By Other Means [Today's News Poem, December 14, 2010]

War By Other Means [Today's News Poem, December 14, 2010]

The law is the order of violence,
Means of coercion. Religion and ethics—
None of that matters; but precedent, judgments
Will escalate, prompting a standardized
Method informed by the process of cages,
Warrants and chambers of gas and the gavel.
The files have arranged all the ownership
Ever to be, and have programmed the weapons,
Soldiers—whatever—to claim what they shoot.

"A federal district judge in Virginia ruled on Monday that the keystone provision in the Obama health care law is unconstitutional, becoming the first court in the country to invalidate any part of the sprawling act and ensuring that appellate courts will receive contradictory opinions from below."

Good writing, and I don't just say that because I agree with you.

Very dark place you are taking us here.

Not so sure about the message, but I like the way you present it. That is good. Poetry should make us question our reactions and assumptions.

In Canada we are rather baffled by congressional / senatorial / judicial aversion toward public health care in the US. Guess y'all can keep crossing the border for cheaper meds over here in the true land of the free ;P

Really liked this - may I republish it on my site in 2011?

Great writing. Speaks in dark tone about our polity. People need to read and contemplate these powerful arguments. A excellent piece my poetic friend.
