North Korean Suicide Biography [April 5, 2013]

North Korean Suicide Biography [April 5, 2013]

The Wise have no friend
Save the truth, martyred.
Save you a martyr, gain
A tyrant. Monks self-ignite
Because they cannot bear harm
Beyond their self-usurpation.
Korea is myself;
I set myself afire.

“Saying he spoke as a friend, Castro wrote in Cuban state media that North Korea, led by 30-year-old Kim Jong-un, had shown the world its technical prowess and now it was time to remember its duties to others.”

Objectification: The Mark of Cain [Today's News Poem, December 18, 2010]

Objectification: The Mark of Cain [Today's News Poem, December 18, 2010]

Give it a chance and your eyes will adjust.
Color the moon with red diodes of light;
Advertise dust as exclusive escape.
Open a skull and go play with the gray—
Model a nightmare in clay that's for sale:
Liquidate—not just the asset—the fear
Instinct commands; yes, the thing in itself
Changes to match how you wish it to be.
Brains in the vacuum are nothing like you:
You are tremendous, surpassing the facts.
You are like Adam, you name so you own.
You are like Cain, so you punish affronts
Conjured from nothing—so murder your kin.
Everything's doubled, disposable parts;
Earth has replacements and so does the mind:
One in the distance, the other, in story—
Fear's the explorer, instrument; killer.

"South Korean military officials say they will proceed with planned live-fire artillery drills from an island the North shelled last month, despite threats of retaliation from Pyongyang."

The Main Course [Today's News Poem, June 4. 2010]

The Main Course [Today's News Poem, June 4. 2010]

The scales of the fish are of welds and of rivets.
Its gills are atomic, its fangs are its missiles.
And skipping the swells and the waves in migration,
It hunts for its prey—since the rule of the ocean
Is 'eat what is smaller.' Composite-hulled eagles
Observe from the sky, with their eyes made of lenses—
Their talons of gatling. A shark in the water
Was launched by a whale, and this shark drinks the bubbles
That form in the tide. With a turbine, it's speeding;
All teeth and no brain—and it's perfectly suited
To dine on the metal, to play with explosions.
The liquid is churning. The predators gather
Their forces together: the feast is beginning.

“It was not clear what action South Korea was seeking from the Security Council for the sinking of its warship, the Cheonan, which the South says was torpedoed by the North in March. But any Security Council action would have to be approved by China, an ally of the North, which holds a veto in the council.”
