Brave New Nerves [Today's News Poem, August 13, 2010]
A wave or a particle; string—if that matters—
Has woven my iris to a fabric of systems.
It trickles through nerves and collects in the endings.
I twitch in my armchair—a butterfly's trampled:
An earthquake in Chile is cause for more coffee.
The coffee, the cause of plantations in forests.
The bulldozers topple the timber—thank goodness
They're made in America—bashing a species
Unknown to the scientists waiting with clipboards.
Who stymies the progress of muscles through patches
Of dread, where the parasites nibble the sinews?
And vanquished for gardens of coffee we nurture?
“In an apparent bid to extend its control over the Internet and cash in on the rapid growth of mobile devices, China plans to create its own government-controlled search engine.”
