Advancing Safely [Today's News Poem April 14, 2010]
“The Partnership for Advancing Road Safety (PARS) has vowed to make roads safer by promoting traffic safety initiatives - including use of automated road safety cameras - that prevent injuries and decrease fatalities caused by red light runners, speeders and distracted drivers.”

Depravity's witness selects the dog father
To start with. Through windows, observe how he scuttles
On sidewalk, as bus trundles toward him and burrows
Through canyons of steel and the wood stakes that line them.
The glass panes reflect light on canine and master;
His shadow reveals an agenda of selfness
That's birthproof, not deathproof—yet gliding. He's gliding
To somewhere ecstatic—a dervish with ipod—
To somewhere delicious: he steps off the sidewalk
With hound and while singing—the bus veers around him
And tips all the passengers sideways and skullwards
Through spaces, through distance beyond comprehension—
And blended together we shatter our fellows,
While dervishes scatter—then mind their own business.

This one's my favorite, so far.

Thanks. Been making edits as I reread it. Wrote and posted it too hastily, but the alternative was missing the deadline.

The edits make it better, so I like it too now.
