Abominable Mystic [Today's News Poem, July 28, 2010]
Aquarium mystic; a trifle of suckers.
And eyes like a monster—just look at the fucker:
A throwback to slime with its brute premonitions,
Resembling something like pre-Fall cognition.
It's worthy of worship—as if I were praying
To nightmares no trite glossolaliac saying
Could capture; no light in the tunnel of dying,
No god can be equal to octopus scrying.
A seizure of rapture, a moment of fainting;
I wake to the feeling of tentacle tainting.
It covers my nose and my lips as a suture
I gaze in its eyes and it tells me my future.
“He claims that the octopus is a symbol of decadence and decay among "his enemies"... the Iranian president accused the octopus of spreading "western propaganda and superstition." ”

RIP to those slain, terrorized and tyrannized.
RIP to those defamed by their own pompous grandeur.
I demand delusion and a sweet dream

than Plea Location location location and be
slain anyhow!

Recovering Predator Sympathy [Today's News Poem, July 27, 2010]
Recovering Predator Sympathy [Today's News Poem, July 27, 2010]
Even if somehow I managed to peel
Fat from my body and loosened my tongue
(Better for you—if not perfect appeal),
Managed to follow you—college at Reed—
Leaving all else for a chance at your love...
Let's say I won it and after degrees,
Married that June with a Chuppah above.
Innocence saved with you—both of us kids;
Older, not jaded, not blundering fools
Seeking the bitterness; searching to taste
Passion as first we had felt at our school—
Losing that self to the madness of self.
And I was in a bubble.
And I did not notice what was beyond
the world of my making.
And even our fantasies disappoint us.
And when life finally reaps our innocence by motorcycle
and our brother nearly dies
and our niece dies,
you tell me they were not mine to lose
and that we were never truly together
and that you cannot live with the potential for loss
and that we will never have children at all
and that I must learn to love predators again
and that I must teach you with alienation
and that I must leave you.
“A man newly arrived at San Quentin State Prison after being convicted of murder and drunken driving in the death of a 9-year-old Novato girl was fatally stabbed by another inmate, authorities said today... The suspect is Frank Anthony Souza, 31, a convicted murderer from San Jose... Souza was convicted in Santa Clara County Superior Court of first-degree murder for fatally strangling and beating John Carl Riggins, 59, who was homeless, in an alley near Lincoln Avenue in San Jose in August 2007. The two men had gotten into a confrontation after Souza stole Riggins' mountain bike, authorities said.”

As They Go Obsolete [Today's News Poem, July 26, 2010]
As They Go Obsolete [Today's News Poem, July 26, 2010]
Life is for the healthy,
So farewell my follicle!
Live by straws and emptied
Cans. Your catheter, your toys,
Mock both young and elder.
For all babies are droplets;
Flowing down to oceans
Of the seniors—and stones
Like you fall where birthed and
Then you stay. Your ancestors
Weep or else they're watching
As the river swells with youth,
While the sea is draining—
And you just refuse. You sit,
Watching water pass you.
“Some findings of a report about Ohio's probation system released Monday by the Council of State Governments Justice Center: — Seven of ten surveyed judges said they don't receive information on what happens to people they sentence to probation. ”

I catch those sweet surprises
and I catch my life, If only for a moment.
your soft skin must never Touch rough life.
and I will carry you in my Crude and otherwise
listless hands. the same hands that otherwise
would not Have worked this hard. and I will be
a funny memory for you as you drink orange juice
with your new husband...
and I will dream under the wide and starry sky,
of my life: Moments under a full moon,
with joy and you... Moments of life between the keys of my keyboard.
and I will wait for you, But you Mustn't come.

Memorandum of Understanding for an Ecosystem of Explosives [Today's News Poem, July 25, 2010]
Memorandum of Understanding for an Ecosystem of Explosives [Today's News Poem, July 25, 2010]
Memorandum of Understanding
Re: Ecosystem of explosives
We will knit the string and you will tug it;
and the large idols shall smash the smaller ones.
We will use your eyes to watch us rupture the moon...
and it will be your dismay...
and the sky will be a yellow-white scramble at dusk.
House of Bombs: good night dust.
Nail-File Bowie Knife: always be prepared.
Office of Bullets: six grams of lead at 80 WPM.
Who shall type and who shall delete?
Who shall sleep in yolk; and who in crumbs, on keys?
Who shall take wing below the runny egg sky,
And who shall fall in canisters, to detonate on ground?
“The documents — some 92,000 reports spanning parts of two administrations from January 2004 through December 2009 — illustrate in mosaic detail why, after the United States has spent almost $300 billion on the war in Afghanistan, the Taliban are stronger than at any time since 2001... Over all, the documents do not contradict official accounts of the war. But in some cases the documents show that the American military made misleading public statements — attributing the downing of a helicopter to conventional weapons instead of heat-seeking missiles or giving Afghans credit for missions carried out by Special Operations commandos. ”
– C. J. Chivers, Carlotta Gall, Andrew W. Lehren, Mark Mazzetti, Jane Perlez, and Eric Schmitt, with contributions from Jacob Harris and Alan McLean; The New York Times, July 25, 2010

The Monarch Reports Record Financial Profitability
and Strong Asset Growth. Why the fuck aren't I?!?
The Monarch is a paedophile:
any Royal with that level of connection
with children should be castrated
or sleep like Michael Jackson.
It doesn't stop there.
The Monarch assembles all subjects
in an arena with wild animals.
Beria, Michael Jackson, Roman Polanski and Muhammad
wave to the sold out crowd.
The 25 lesbo fans are booing!
Sappho climbs the mountains of 70,000 corpses.
she screams "lying, lying, lying.
mountains of Strong Asset Reports!!
I wanna FOLLOW interesting peeps!!
I wanna have summer Forever.
and you Sickest Kids wave to the sold out crowd
in an arena with wild animals and you Sickest Kids
want us to be happy for you?
you should be branded and welded together
and buried under a sea of corpses.
and the beautiful children will Play music
Forever in love summer."

Mass Sacrifice for Temple Rites [Today's News Poem, July 24, 2010]
Mass Sacrifice for Temple Rites [Today's News Poem, July 24, 2010]
Temple rites:
kiss of life. Burrows of flesh
enfolding.
Fists of chests
grip and pound. Echoes of shrieks
in tunnels.
See those limbs?
Heads at sea founder and sink
from shoulder—
kneeward; down
where the tide's legs and all boots:
and sirens
open up,
catching songs, dirges—the wails
and swallow.
“Officials and eyewitnesses spoke of a mass stampede in which people were trampled under foot. At least 40 others were injured, some seriously, and many police and ambulance personnel were seen giving the kiss of life to victims.”

Hemoglobin Quake [Today's News Poem, July 23, 2010]
Hemoglobin Quake [Today's News Poem, July 23, 2010]
I could drive to the center of earthquake: grind sand dollars and accident the waves. Don a scuba tank and flop in the foam. Ride on the surf of the beach and the undertow pulling me down to the fish and the vents full of heat. The bubbles may wobble and yet I can feel that urge to present what I have to that gurgle of Gods. An ancient one clutching a crucifix. A ship, haunted by seaweed. A blizzard of trash in currents is looming. An ice age of plastic; a half life of polystyrene. Becoming a sand dab, I burrow. Becoming a drill bit, I gnaw deeper. In repose, my hemoglobin starves, shakes, then stills.
“Earthquake Details:
Magnitude 3.5
Distances: 5 km (3 miles) NNW (331°) from Pacifica, CA
5 km (3 miles) WSW (237°) from Daly City, CA
5 km (3 miles) WSW (254°) from Colma, CA
15 km (9 miles) SW (215°) from San Francisco City Hall, CA”

Windshield to the Soul [Today's News Poem, July 22, 2010]
Windshield to the Soul [Today's News Poem, July 22, 2010]
I) Abandon the Apartment
Stacked in columns—expired and spent—
Monuments to the emptiness
Choices offer the drinking gent:
Loyal soldiers of my distress.
II) Owens Valley to Fresno
Prison camps for the Japanese,
Rabbit guts on the interstate;
Desert frost in the night will freeze
Windshield-water, opaque in slates.
III) Guided by Stars on the Freeway
Stars and twinkles of dreams are vast;
Constellations above us spill.
Now the middle of night is past:
Relative to our speed, we're still.
IV) Final Scene in Burning Vehicle
Don't you listen; my screams are lies.
Look! My atoms are casting shade!
Plastic blends with me! Send my eyes
Up; my ashes can stay where laid.
“A Greyhound bus traveling to Sacramento from Los Angeles crashed on a highway in California's Central Valley early Thursday, killing six people and seriously injuring nine others.”

one-track-minds are one-trick-minds.
Anyhow It's not like you know how to reverse it
you would just file the formula in your special folder, #trashcan.
my secret formula for mediocre thinkers is a chinese finger trap
of 140 words, shitty movies, stupid ppl, NEVER
any good Poetry; just this "Pieces of My Broken Heart" shit;
and a brown brown nose, huffing on all that bullshit.
why would i wanna give it back ??
you dream tiny and call it BIG!!

Vignettes From the White Collar Rebellion [Today's News Poem, July 21, 2010]
Vignettes From the White Collar Rebellion [Today's News Poem, July 21, 2010]
Forge. Fake. Find. Feign. Fuck. Foul. Flee. Fence.
“Taxi man wait. I'll pay you triple your gate.”
Stopped in a space. I took my drive to that place.
Business blackmail; I put my files up for sale.
Marked for death—still, I keep ahead with my skill.
Laugh. Lie. Look. Loot. Lean. Leap. Luck. Lost.
Banker hitmen are shooting bullets and pens;
Gaining on me, I hijacked cab through the trees.
Died. My ID deleted. Hidden, I'm free:
Planning attacks. I know the system will crack.
Gripe. Group. Grip guns. Grunt. Grant. Glow. Gain.
Anarchists plan for panic. Riots will fan.
Oracles wake from losers. Slackers will shake
Secrets from trees, the slavers pass us the keys.
Crumble! Else make society from the flakes.
Seek. Save. Strive. Spare. Smelt. Shape. Seal. Surge.
“Federal Reserve Chairman Ben S. Bernanke painted a generally downbeat picture of the U.S. economy Wednesday, saying the overall outlook is "unusually uncertain" and predicting that unemployment will remain stubbornly high for several years.”
– Walter Hamilton, Los Angeles Times, July 21, 2010, 1:28p.m.

Progress [Guest News Poem, by Valerie Valdes, July 21, 2010]
Progress [Guest News Poem, by Valerie Valdes, July 21, 2010]
A process unending, as slow as a glacier
receding from valleys left fertile behind it.
So chickens are born from Jurassic ancestors,
a commonplace phoenix with eons-old ashes.
But mankind believed he had already finished
the circular race that each creature is running
in small, ceaseless circles concentrically soaring
up toward that pinnacle: nature’s perfection.
To find human footsteps deflowering virginal
forests instead of revisiting pathways
worn down by familiar forms of a phenotype
reduces exclusive to merely conventional.
As mountains are scaled, each believed to be tallest,
beyond them clouds part to reveal peaks much higher.
* * * * *
Adventures in Very Recent Evolution (http://www.nytimes.com/2010/07/20/science/20adapt.html)
"Many have assumed that humans ceased to evolve in the distant past, perhaps when people first learned to protect themselves against cold, famine and other harsh agents of natural selection. But in the last few years, biologists peering into the human genome sequences now available from around the world have found increasing evidence of natural selection at work in the last few thousand years, leading many to assume that human evolution is still in progress.
“I don’t think there is any reason to suppose that the rate has slowed down or decreased,” says Mark Stoneking, a population geneticist at the Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology in Leipzig, Germany."
--Nicholas Wade, The New York Times, July 19, 2010

understand pain.
prevent pleasure.
takin dem damn burning pills...
hits hard as a SEX BOMB!
hold grudges in your heart
because your pants filled up with urine.
take SEX pills for pleasure.
take dem damn burning pills for pain.
hold urine in your heart and
grudges in your pants.
There's a pill for that.
want to break leg shoulder arm?
There's a club for that.
want to pirate an STD ship?

New Gods Scrap All of Creation [Today's News Poem, July 20, 2010]
New Gods Scrap All of Creation [Today's News Poem, July 20, 2010]
Know every thing and charge up the static:
Blade bath for birds; the air flows—erratic.
Clip off their wings. Farm planets for profits.
Death comes for herds. Kill totems and prophets.
Dice all the beasts and gifts from the stars:
Scrap-meat for feasts and wind sparks in jars.
“Google Inc's energy unit has entered into a deal to buy wind power from NextEra Energy Inc for the next 20 years to power data centers. ”

How do you live smelling so horrible?
everything seems elite and posh, but it is only superficial.
fine dining is still fingering a chicken drumstick from KFC!
there are more churches than liquor stores...
and I can't get the smell of this place off me!
are we turning evil or have we succumbed
to some degenerate lifestyle? You promised
me a SCENT of evil, but How Did I get
to be as sadistic an old man as you already?
everything is still superficial.
afraid niggaz will steal yo KFC franchise?
Sic yo liquor stores on 'em!
I CAN'T STAND OLD STANK BREATHE ASS HONKEYS
tryna take a piece off me! so I got some Slave slants
for pennies a day... Wait, what am i sayin?
everything is still superficial,
I can't get that OLD STANK ass SCENT of evil off me;
There are more slaves today than ever before in human history,
and we all are slaves.

Leaves Nothing Behind [Today's News Poem, July 19, 2010]
Leaves Nothing Behind [Today's News Poem, July 19, 2010]
The seers, who are trained to seek clues in the patterns
Of tea leaves, ignore the impending disaster.
So villagers gather their harvest to worship
The kindness of air as their vegetables wither:
A blaze for the feast of the priests, where the goblets
Are filled with the last of the port... and they empty
The contents of grapevines and peer at the bottom.
Their fortune? It's nothing but gold for a casket.
“The euro? It’s finished, Mr. Hendry proclaims. China? Headed for a fall. President Obama? “If there was a way to short Obama, I would,” Mr. Hendry said.”

I've been part of the problem for years.
I've had Panic Attacks and Anxiety Problems
and spent my last cent on an Energy Healer.
I've been Chugging medium-range Problems for years.
then I saw the sign on a brick wall.
a poster for my heart, I saw the sign.
"are you a part of the problem?"
it asked and it opened up my heart. I saw the sign.
I saw the wall and I'm unacceptable.
I saw the wall, another brick in the wall;
It fell and crushed my face! I saw the wall
and It opened up my chest
and it opened up my heart. I saw the sign:
A guaranteed anti-anxiety package. yes!
then WOW I woke up with a drunk face
in need of thought control!!!
I opened up my chest and I found
a cold cavity where my heart used to be.
I would be part of the Solution.
the Solution is more important than Life:
another brick in my chest. I saw the sign:
and I opened up a Certification Program
for thought control for I saw the sign!!!

Feast of Stones [Today's News Poem, July 18, 2010]
Feast of Stones [Today's News Poem, July 18, 2010]
The lovers are reaching one hundred degrees.
The blankets are trapping the fricative heat.
And deeper! The two of them breathing, they beat
Together—a furnace by passion's decree.
The bride will wear gemstones—a mineral crown.
The groom will bring water he stores in his veins;
And joined with a shaft, both the lovers remain
Interred for a feast of the stones 'till they drown.
“At least 38 miners have been killed in three separate accidents in China's notoriously dangerous coal mines, according to state-run media.”
– BBC, July 18, 2010
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-pacific-10675363
“Coal makes up 70 percent of China's total primary energy consumption, and China is both the largest consumer and producer of coal in the world.”

Dialectic Of Enallages With Wittgenstein [From This Week's Combatwords]
Dialectic Of Enallages With Wittgenstein [From this week's Combatwords]
And the nightmares were worse you said; reaching an apex
In your waking. I said it was terror—ennui, not
An invader of sleep. And you said you were riding
In a trance as you opened your eyes in the morning.
And the sleepiness, real. And this wakefulness, figment
Of a thing you’ve forgotten or haven’t the language
To just state in pure symbols. The language is failing
You: its signals are static—absolving intentions
Far beyond definitions, in spaces between us.
Relevant a little after 5:45
Scottish Cowboy Gangsta Opera-Rap
I think it sounds best if you press play on all three at once... in fact, I think I'd argue it's most complete playing all three at once. It's as if they were secretly synchronized.

Passing Roadkill on New Ganges [Today's News Poem, July 17, 2010]
Passing Roadkill on New Ganges [Today's News Poem, July 17, 2010]
In cradles of metal, on ribbons of concrete,
We're winding the circuit, in search of the impact.
And faster than ever, who's thirsting for water
In rivers of metal on cushions of rubber?
What baptism matches this mikvah? This Ganges
Of ozone—embankments all covered with shrapnel?
A whiff of the gasoline charges the senses,
It spins all the wheels with the throbbing of motors.
And spinning ourselves into lines on the freeway
Where corpses and timber possess alike masses;
We're winding in circuits, in search of the impact
That follows the thrill of rebirth in a cradle
Of plastic and steel—where velocities matter.
“Long Beach police found a man's body Friday off an embankment of the 405 Freeway, but said there was no obvious signs of trauma. ”
– Teresa Watanabe, LA Times, July 16, 2010

Square Yard of Space in Space [Today's News Poem, July 16, 2010]
Square Yard of Space in Space [Today's News Poem, July 16, 2010]
My sentence commuted, I lived in the yardage
Raskolnikov mentioned for beasts in the city.
My lovers were gulls and they rode on the thermals;
Surveying the prison surrounded by ocean.
And outside the refuse is clattering—rolling
Away and I climbed out my window to listen
For sirens and buses—emergency's traces.
The panes in the walls of the cubes in the boxes
Are shows that I watch. I consider the reasons
They're jailed in this canyon of echoing menace.
Descending the ladder, I walk to the parklet:
A sliver with tenants that predate this prison.
A netting of cables and boughs keeps me grounded.
And even the peak of the hill I've ascended
Is crowned with a cloud that is punctured with spotlights:
A halo of glamor; the urban sky glowing.
I notice antennae are pointed directly
Above us, to space and away from our planet.
“While these structures spring from the clash and synthesis of Adam Smith and Mao Zedong, they also reflect the breakneck speed at which sprawl is entangling cities worldwide. ”
– Christoph Gielen and Tim Doody, The New York Times, July 16, 2010

A halo of glamor; the urban sky glowing.
I notice antennae are pointed directly
Above us, to space and away from our planet.
“While these structures spring from the clash and synthesis of Adam Smith and Mao Zedong, they also reflect the breakneck speed at which sprawl is entangling cities worldwide. ”

UNBELIEVERS Pledge Allegiance to the Flag [#twitterfoundpoem July 16, 2010]
Tweets+Edits=#twitterfoundpoem
You secretly root for the villain.
HELLBOUND HEPCATS, UNBELIEVERS,
GRAVEYARD JUNKIES.... You root for them all.
your heart feels heavy and You secretly feel defeated.
and You wonder how those who have lost their mind
find that special someone next to them.
You wonder if they all secretly root for the villain.
You root for the junkie when he takes stolen goods
to a drug dealer in exchange for narcotics.
You root for the cop when he bashes the head
of a defeated man. You wonder how a Hero
could look like a villain as You secretly take
stolen goods to your dealer in exchange for narcotics
and pledge allegiance to the flag.
